ASHTON (NO. 58)

The plans for Ashton were approved in September 1909. They were drawn up by Colson and Nesbitt, Winchester architects, on behalf of Major-General Hardy. The Edwardian building had a ground floor which onsisted of a dining room, drawing room, smoking room, morning room, hall, butler’s pantry, kitchen, scullery and lavatory. The upstairs consisted of a bedroom and dressing room, six further bedrooms and a bathroom, plus a further bedroom in the attic. (Building control plan HRO reference W/C11/2/1304). A 'motor house and pony shed' was added in 1910.

The house was put on the market in 1931, for sale by auction. It was on a 999 year lease from the Ecclesiastical Commissioners. (HRO ref 48M84W/57).
