CAPTAIN HORACE G MITCHELL
Horace Granville Mitchell (Resident 1934-1955)
Horace Mitchell was born in 1888 in Polmont, Stirlingshire.
​
He joined the Lanarkshire (Queen's Own Royal Glasgow and
Lower Ward of Lanarkshire) Yeomanry in 1906 and rose to Captain before resigning his commission in 1912.
​
He joined the 3rd Hussars at the start of the war in 1914 and suffered gun shot wounds in 1918.
​
He joined the RAF in late 1918, but relinquished his commission in 1919 due to ill-health.
​
Horace lived in Ashton House from 1934 to 1955.
​
He died on the Isle of Man in 1956.
