RASTGARTH (NO. 55)

Photo of house on 48M84W/60.

The plans for Rastgarth were submitted in May 1928 by Barnard and Carter, architects of Winchester and Cheltenham, on behalf of Miss Seymour. The plans show a drawing room, dining room, hall, kitchen, scullery, along with four bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. (HRO reference W/c11/2/3018).

Rastgarth, along with Weeke Gore, unlike the other houses on Chilbolton Ave, are outside the boundary of Winchester City. They are in Weeke Without parish, part of WRDC.

Residents:

Miss Geraldine M Seymour (1930-1932)

Francis and Kathleen Tabor (1933-1962)

Colonial Civil Servant

The contents of Rastgarth were put up for auction in 1961 and the house was put up for auction by the executors of Kathleen's estate in 1962. The house was described as having three main bedrooms and three secondary bedrooms. (HRO 48M84W/60 & 61).

Rastgarth was demolished and replaced by the Colten development, Queen's Gate, in 2009.
