WILLIAM COATES

William and Ethel Coates (Residents 1933-1956)

William Coates was born in 1889. He married Ethel Taylor in Winchester in 1922.

​

He was the Hampshire County Education Officer for 28 years, retiring in 1956.

​

William and Ethel moved to Whin Brae in 1933 and stayed there until his retirement in 1956 when they moved down the road to Down Cottage.

​

William died in 1968 and Ethel in 1971, both whilst at Down Cottage.
